PSHE

We were delighted to see in the Inspection Report 2010 that the pupil's personal development from EYFS onwards was viewed as 'outstanding'. The PSHE programme at SPS was seen to enrich the overall education of our pupils and to 'promote positive relationships and behaviour'.

Pupils are taught PSHE in individual lessons from Year 1 and as an integral part of the curriculum in EYFS.

In the Upper School homework is set from Year 5 and pupils have one lesson of 40 minutes per week from Year 4. The main topic areas covered include Health, Anti-Bullying, Our Community, Safety and Friendship. We incorporate the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) recommended by the Department for Schools and Families and assess the pupils' progress in lessons and project work. A theatre workshop for Years 1-6 in January 2011 will outline the importance of healthy exercise and diet in order to achieve our 'Personal Best'. Year 6 take an active part in the annual Junior Citizenship Day held at British Airways.

The recent Staines Prep Challenge is an initiative which awards all Upper School pupils in different areas and as a part of this we now undertake an annual residential trip to an activity centre - Pestalozzi in 2010 - as part of the curriculum from Year 3 onwards.
