Languages taught at Staines Preparatory School take into account all different learning styles and abilities. We use Interactive websites, work from well respected books, audio-visual ICT and the scheme of work is based on the new QCA Curriculum. French is offered as a thriving after-school club in Reception and Year 1 and as part of the school curriculum from Year 1 onwards. Latin and Classical Studies are taught from Year 5. Spanish is also taught in a popular lunchtime club in Year 5. At Staines Prep School we fully realise not only the importance of learning other languages to our role in the global economy, but also the awareness and respect for all cultures. To this end we enter children each year from Year 3 to the EuroTalk Junior Language Challenge, where they have the opportunity to learn the basics in World Languages as well as European. This year two of our pupils reached the Grand Final, having learned Italian, Japanese and Chichewa, one of the languages spoken in Malawi. After a successful Japanese Taster Workshop for Year 6 last year we will hold more taster workshops, the next being in Mandarin, in 2011. |
