Sport, PE & Games

PE, Sport & Games are well catered for within the curriculum and play an important part in life at SPS. The School's philosophy is that sport should be competitive but inclusive and there are opportunities for all pupils to play matches during their time at SPS.

Lessons
All classes have at least one PE lesson each week and at least two games lessons from Year 2 onwards. In addition from Year 2 pupils take swimming lessons at the Spelthorne Leisure Centre, which is adjacent to the School.  Apart from the main sports of netball, rounders, soccer and cricket, many other sports are offered as part of the PE curriculum and others such as tennis and sports club as out of school activities.

Fixtures
SPS has an extensive fixture list for netball, rounders, soccer and cricket against other local schools, some of who are among the best in the region.  The School competes in a number of local and IAPS tournaments, and also a Inter-Schools Swimming Gala, with high levels of success in recent years.

Houses
House competitions are played throughout the year in soccer, netball and rounders and the Inter-House Swimming Gala is particularly successful. During the Summer Term separate Sports' Days are held for the Lower and Upper Schools, where the focus is on team effort but with opportunities for individuals to shine.

Facilities
A flood-lit all weather surface is used for PE, football training and also netball and tennis. In addition, two other hard courts are available for tennis and netball. The grass playing field is used for football and rounders. The school has two excellent cricket nets on site and have cricket matches played at nearby Staines and Laleham Cricket Club.
