SCIENCE & ENGINEERING WEEK

13th March 2008

Assembly - Is There Life Out There?

On Tuesday we were entertained in assembly by Gill Slater from Brigidine School who gave a colourful talk on the developments in our knowledge of Space and the age-old question "Is there life out there?" Later in the week, when pupils were involved in the British Association for Science's Big Question activity, the predominance of Space related questions showed how influential the talk had been.

Year 5 Electricity - Magnetism Projects

Once again, a superb array of innovative projects were brought in by Year 5. Wednesday was spent demonstrating them all to invited audiences of younger pupils and, later in the day, parents. It was a delight for all involved with fantastic enthusiasm on the part of the demonstrators and their audiences. Many, many thanks to all those involved on the day and behind the scenes beforehand in helping to bring the children's ideas to fruition. All your hard work really did pay off with a great deal of learning as well as enjoyment!

Year 6 Science demonstrations

Despite the inclement weather, Year 6 were able to get out onto the playground on Monday and Thursday to show off several intriguing science experiments and activities - from the liquid that behaves like a solid to fizz-pop rockets. Once again, the knowledge and enthusiasm of the older pupils rubbed off on the younger ones as they explained the science behind the enigmas. Well done Year 6!

Several quizzes were run during the week and winners will be notified early next week after the many entries have been collected and checked.

Friday afternoon sees the week end on a high as Year 3's paper planes soar through the air in their competition watched by Mike Bannister, Chairman of Governors and former Concorde pilot!
