The atmosphere was very moving at the ceremony on May 8th to commemorate the end of the Second World War and exciting as we ate and danced at the birthday party on May 13th! We enjoyed our time at the French School where we painted and cooked French biscuits called sables and then swapped addresses with our new friends. Our day out in Paris was sunny and we saw many sights on the bus going there too. The pupils mixed very well with all the children at the centre and have addresses of Europeans from all parts! Our thanks go to Mr Heath, School Governor Bob Davies and his wife Cathy for accompanying the trip and to all pupils, parents and staff for their support. Special thanks go to Miss Eastaugh for her organisation and support of the children throughout the project.Fri, 18 May 2012 15:54:42 +0100http://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=830 Yr1 Visit to Chiltern Open Air Museumhttp://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=829Last Friday the children in Year 1 went to the Chiltern Open Air Museum. Although we wore our Wellies all day, the weather was kind to us and we had a wonderful time. The children learnt about making candles from beeswax and washing clothes using carbolic soap! They even helped to use a mangle to wring out the clothes. We all enjoyed a picnic lunch in the sunshine and made our journey back to School tired but happy!Fri, 18 May 2012 15:53:25 +0100http://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=829 Design a Bicycle Competition Winnerhttp://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=826Congratulations to Grace D (4D) who has won a competition run by Argos and Raleigh to design a bike. In order to continue developing these speaking and listening skills, we will be sending a special bag home. One child from each class will take the bag home. The bag needs to be returned to School the following morning with ONE item inside that they can talk about. Suitable items to show would be - a book, a photograph, a programme from a show, an ornament, a favourite item of clothing but NO toys please. The item provided will be sent home at the end of the day. Thank you in advance for your co-operation. We look forward to sharing this time with your children.Fri, 11 May 2012 12:04:46 +0100http://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=825 Sunbury Olympic Art Projecthttp://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=824Year 4 are taking part in the Sunbury Olympic Art Project creating artwork that will represent a series of sycamore seeds that have fallen to the ground. These sycamore seeds bear the thoughts and feelings of the young people towards the Olympics. They have also made lanterns and have written poems which will be recited whilst the lanterns are being viewed - the lanterns are going to be put together to make one huge torch. These items are being made from recycled materials. Stuart Simler (an artist) is working with twelve schools in the area to make this collaborative sculpture which will be displayed in the Walled Garden at Sunbury.Fri, 04 May 2012 15:24:18 +0100http://www.stainesprep.co.uk/eventview?eventtype=news&id=824
