Debate Club visit Houses of Parliament

On Wednesday 31st January, the Year 6 Debating Club travelled into London by train to visit and explore the Houses of Parliament. The children had a guided tour of the Palaces of Westminster, taking in the House of Commons, the House of Lords, Westminster Hall and many other chambers, galleries and corridors. The children learned about some of the history and functions of each part of the building, with lots of interesting facts shared along the way.

After the tour, the children participated in a workshop in which they reviewed what they had learned in a quiz and had the opportunity to form their own political parties and policies. We also had a visit from the MP for Spelthorne, Kwasi Kwarteng, who held a Q&A with the children.

Throughout the day the children conducted themselves with maturity, respect and thoughtfulness, showing a clear interest and good understanding of our democracy. We may have some potential future politicians amongst them!
