Forest School

These sessions take place in our dedicated onsite forest area ‘The Sanctuary’ and are taught by staff trained through the official Forest School Development Programme.

The main focus of Forest School is for the pupils to gain an understanding of the natural environment. We do this through engaging pupil-centred sessions where play and choice are an integral part of the learning process. The curriculum includes learning about habitats, weather and nature, building and lighting fires, climbing trees and how to use a variety of tools.

Opportunities are designed to build on an individual’s innate motivation, positive attitudes and interests.

They help pupils increase their emotional intelligence and self-esteem, as well as develop gross and fine motor skills. During the activities, we also support pupils in assessing and taking appropriate risks, and taking responsibility for their own safety and that of others.

Forest School is a popular and exciting aspect of the curriculum for our children, and they love to get outside and engage with nature.
