Learning Support

We will support your child every step of the way to achieve their potential and to feel confident within the school community, and this includes pupils with special educational needs.

We start with differentiated and personalised teaching across the curriculum to ensure all children maximise their learning. However, if it is felt that more tailored intervention is required then our SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) is able to carry out observations and assessments to ascertain any interventions which might be suitable. An Individual Support Plan (ISP) will be created outlining this, alongside targets for the term. Support for your child may be given within the classroom, or they may participate in individual or small group support. In some cases, seeking advice from an outside specialist such as an Educational Psychologist may be suggested.

We work in close partnership with parents in order to provide the best possible support for our pupils, enabling them to build on their strengths and achieve their personal potential, whatever their needs and abilities.

The Retreat

The Retreat is a calming sensory space for children to take a moment to relax. Situated in the Lower School Atrium, it is equipped with specialist bubble tube, fibre optic wires, sensory sequins and soothing music. The Retreat can be used by anyone but it is especially useful for anyone who needs a break from a busy classroom, needs some quiet time to reflect, or simply wants to spend a few moments in a safe and cosy space.

The Burrow

The Burrow is always bustling with exciting learning. Whether children are visiting for Rapid Read, multi-sensory handwriting groups, Speech and Language Therapy or Feelings Club. The Burrow is a bright, cheerful and spacious intervention room, used by the whole of Lower School. Children love visiting The Burrow and will often ask when it’s their turn to visit!

Reading Grotto

Our woodland-themed Reading Grotto is a cosy space where all pupils can enjoy books. The calm, forest-inspired setting helps foster imagination and a love of reading.

Staines Prep Village

Staines Prep Village is our role-play room where pupils can explore everyday life through imaginative play. With areas like a café, a doctor’s surgery and a hairdresser, children can take on different roles, practise social skills and build confidence while having fun.

Brick HQ

Brick HQ is a welcoming, multi-purpose space inspired by the creativity of LEGO. It is home to Brick Club, an extra-curricular activity that encourages communication, teamwork and problem-solving through shared building projects.

Children can also enjoy Free Play stations when they need a calm moment or as a positive choice reward. Brick HQ includes a cosy reading corner and provides space for Upper School pupils to work on targeted interventions outside of class.

"Learning support provision across the school is a significant strength."
