- [Year 2 Famous People Day](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-2-famous-people-day/): On Monday this week, our Year 2 pupils participated in Famous People Day. They thoroughly enjoyed coming into school dressed up as their chosen famous person, we saw everyone from Florence Nightingale and Lionel Messi to Queen Elizabeth II.
- [Year 2 Snowman Trail](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-2-snowman-trail/): To link with our literacy learning on Raymond Briggs 'The Snowman', Year 2 took part in the 'Walking with the Snowman Art Trail' in Staines. We went on a festive local walk to locate some of the beautifully decorated sculptures inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas.
- [Purple Mash Competition](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/purple-mash-competition/): Congratulations to those pupils who entered the Purple Mash Festive Card competition. There were some fabulous entries demonstrating what wonderful artists we have in the school. Although none of our pupils won the Purple Mash prize, we judged our entries on our own criteria based on the paint tools used.
- [Primary Maths Challenge](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/primary-maths-challenge/): During Exam Week, Year 6 and some Year 5 pupils took part in the Primary Maths Challenge (PMC). The PMC is a fun and exciting maths challenge that is sat by children across the UK. It encourages enthusiasm, boosts confidence in mathematics and shows the different way questions can be asked.
- [The Friends: Elfridges Shopping Evening](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/the-friends-elfridges-shopping-evening/): A huge thank you to everyone that supported our fundraising event 'Elfridges' yesterday. It was a big success and we really enjoyed seeing so many of you doing some shopping!
- [Celebration of Christmas Concert](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/celebration-of-christmas-concert/): Last night, over 100 children took part in our Celebration of Christmas Concert. We were treated to performances from the Staff Choir, Concert Band, Lower School Singers, Upper School Singers and Chamber Choir, as well as congregational carols, readings from our Pupil Leadership Team and addresses from Ms Sawyer and our special guest, the Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr Med Buck.
- [Gymkidz Competition](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/gymkidz-competition/): On Wednesday this week, 13 pupils participated in the GymKidz competition over at Heathrow Gym. It was a fun event to promote participation and included a novice floor routine to demonstrate individual skills and vault. The pupils had a lovely day and all received certificates.
- [BSGA U11 Milano Trios Success](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/bsga-u11-milano-trios-success/): The Milano Trios is an exciting team event where up to four members compete across three areas: group floor, individual floor, and vault. This year, we proudly entered four teams: U11 Boys, U11 Girls, U11 Mixed National, and U11 Mixed Regional.
- [Year 4 Geography Trip](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-4-geography-trip/): On Wednesday morning, having avoided the deluge of rain that had flooded a lot of the surrounding areas, Year 4 pupils set off to Laleham Village as part of their studies of settlements this term. This gave them an opportunity to identify different types of dwellings such as bungalows, detached homes, semi-detached homes, terraces, Georgian town houses and riverboats! They were also able to see the sorts of features that they might have expected to see in a village setting such as a church, a village shop, a monument and a school. They were also able to identify features that you would not necessarily expect to find in a village such as a car showroom or a film studio!
- [Year 1 Victorian Day](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-1-victorian-day/): On Wednesday, Year 1 went back in time to the Victorian times to have a taste of what life was like for a Victorian child. They came to school dressed up in Victorian clothes and were met by their strict Victorian teachers!
- [Anti-Bullying Week](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/anti-bullying-week-2/): This week, we have participated in the Anti Bullying Alliance's 'Anti-Bullying Week' which centred around this year’s important theme: Choose Respect.
- [Year 2 Little Dreamers](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-2-little-dreamers/): Congratulations to a group of budding Year 2 writers who entered the Young Writers Little Dreamers competition this year in October where they were inspired to write an acrostic poem all about their dreams. I am delighted to share that all our pupils’ entries were chosen and that their poems will be published in the Little Dreamers - Poetry Explorers book! This is a fantastic achievement celebrating our pupils as confident, imaginative and creative authors!
- [Remembrance Service](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/remembrance-service/): To mark Remembrance Day, our whole school gathered on Monday morning in the Jubilee Quad for a service of remembrance.
- [Chelsea FC Foundation – BHM Workshop](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/7810-2/): Last half term, pupils in Years 4-6 had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a workshop hosted by the Chelsea FC Foundation, where they explored the importance of black history and its influences within the world of football. Inspired by the flags often seen at football matches, our pupils created their own flags to celebrate Black History Month.
- [French Trip](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/french-trip/): We had a wonderful time visiting the Opal Coast area in France. It was a great opportunity to put our French learning into practice and experience French food and culture first-hand. An action-packed three days included bread-making at a traditional bakery, buying food from a local market to make our own baguettes and visiting Europe's largest aquarium. Some children were even brave enough to try snails!
- [Spooks & Sparkles Disco](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/spooks-sparkles-disco/): We would like to say a huge thank you to the parent community, our Spooks and Sparkles Disco had a record number of tickets sold and was a big success.

- [Mural Unveiling](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/mural-unveiling/): Staines Preparatory School were honoured to attend the official unveiling of the new mural artwork in Staines, by the Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr Med Buck.
- [National Poetry Day](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/national-poetry-day/): Yesterday, was National Poetry Day and to celebrate this we held our annual poetry competition, inviting children from Years 3 to 6 to represent their Houses by reciting a poem to their peers and families. The judges were impressed by the children's confidence, clarity and expression during their wonderful performances.
- [Macmillan Coffee Morning](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/macmillan-coffee-morning-2/): Huge thanks to the parents that attended this morning’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, despite the awful weather. We appreciate you supporting this worthwhile charity event. Today we raised £209.
- [European Day of Languages](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/european-day-of-languages-2/): On Thursday 26th September, we celebrated European Day of Languages.
- [Year 4 Residential to Runways End](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-4-residential-to-runways-end/): Year 4 had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Runways End, based in the Aldershot Camp on the edge of the Basingstoke Canal. Despite the unsettled weather, all the children participated in a range of activities that developed their confidence, listening skills and resilience. They pushed themselves individually through archery, caving and rock climbing, and strengthened their team building skills with canoeing, Egg Drop, orienteering and Water Rockets. We enjoyed the wonderful selection of food at mealtimes and facilities that were available, including the camp fire.
- [Year 6 Buddy Training](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-6-buddy-training-2/): Year 6 pupils spent the day ‘off timetable’ today to participate in leadership training. The children took part in a range of activities to identify and develop the qualities and skills that are demonstrated by good activities.
- [Jeans for Genes Day](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/jeans-for-genes-day-2/): Thank you to everyone who wore their denim today and raised an amazing £210.20 for this wonderful charity – Jeans for Genes - who help those living with a genetic disorder.
- [Year 5 visit Condover Hall Activity Centre](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-5-visit-condover-hall-activity-centre/): After three days filled with fun-packed activities, we are confident that the children will have a well-deserved rest tonight. This trip has been a fantastic opportunity for them to grow and bond, and we could not be prouder of their achievements.
- [Year 6 Production](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-6-production/): Wow! What an end to the school year, and also a fabulous fitting finish for our brilliant Year 6 pupils. On Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon, audiences were treated to a side-splitting treat with a hilarious musical comedy performed by our Year 6 children. They delivered amazing acting performances, sung stunning solo pieces, demonstrated tremendous teamwork and illustrated just how awesome they are!
- [Year 1 Space Exhibition](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-1-space-exhibition/): Year 1 have really enjoyed creating some fantastic rockets, dioramas and a range of solar system models as part of their homework project to show what they have learnt during our Space topic in English this term. The children used a range of different resources and materials and loved sharing their projects with each other on Thursday 4th July in our mini exhibition.
- [Year 3 Residential to Walton Firs](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-3-residential-to-walton-firs/): It is a great experience for the Year 3 pupils as, for many, this is the first time away from their parents. The teachers were very impressed how they were able to show wonderful resilience and embrace all challenges head first.
- [Sports Day 2024](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/6929-2/): Sports Day is the pinnacle of every Games Department's year. It is a fantastic occasion where the whole SPS community comes together to celebrate the sporting prowess of our pupils. The pupils put on a wonderful performance with each and every child exhibiting the Staines Prep Sporting Way of, Striving, Perseverance and Sporting Spirit.
- [Year 1 visit Hobbledown Heath](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-1-visit-hobbledown-heath/): On Wednesday this week, Year 1 pupils had a fantastic day out at Hobbledown Heath. As the sun shone the children enjoyed exploring and seeing the different animals such as goats, alpacas, lemurs, Shetland ponies and yaks.
- [Year 2 visit The Look Out Discovery Centre](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-2-visit-the-look-out-discovery-centre/): Last Friday, Year 2 pupils had a brilliant time at The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell. They participated in a Bugs and Beasties Workshop and had great fun hunting for minibeasts in the forest, even coming across a huge crawling anthill!
- [Year 5 visit Hampton Court Palace](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/year-5-visit-hampton-court-palace/): Year 5 had a excellent day at Hampton Court Palace today on their trip to support the learning about the Tudors in history lessons. The children spent the morning exploring the apartments of Henry VIII and the Tudor kitchens, finding out what it might have been like for people both 'upstairs and downstairs' in Tudor Times.

- [Upper & Lower Prep Maths Competition](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/upper-lower-prep-maths-competition/): We are thrilled to share the success of our recent school-wide Mathematics Competition, a vibrant event that brought together pupils across all year groups. Our dedicated young mathematicians from Years 1 & 2, 3 & 4, and 5 & 6 dove headfirst into the competition which offered challenge, collaboration, and, most importantly, fun!

- [Reception visit Merlewood Care Home](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/reception-visit-merlewood-care-home/): On Tuesday 12th March, some of the Reception pupils visited Merlewood Care Home in Virginia Water. The residents enjoyed listening to the pupils sing songs. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was one of their favourites and all the residents joined in with the singing.

- [Book Week 2024](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/book-week-2024/): What a fun-filled Book Week we have had! The highlight of the week was World Book Day, and it was fantastic to see all the creative costumes during our whole-school parade to kick-start our day. Throughout the day, all children from Nursery to Year 6 had the opportunity to meet our Book Day author, Samantha Bell, who talked to them about her creative process of writing as well as the topic of plastic pollution in our oceans.

The concert featured pieces performed on the piano, electric guitar and voice.

During their PSHEE lessons, children have completed activities that have focused on understanding and sharing the feelings of others. This year, the theme of 'Empathy Week' has been 'Home'.

- [Bronze Medal Winners!](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/bronze-medal-winners/): On Friday 9th February, the U11 Girls Hockey team took part in The Bellevue Hockey Tournament at Old Cranleighan's Hockey Club. 10 schools in total were present and we started in a strong pool where we won all our games apart from one, which we lost in the dying seconds of the game.

- [Racket Pack Badminton](https://www.stainesprep.co.uk/racket-pack-badminton/): On Monday 5th February, we took 10 children from Years 4 & 5 to Cleves School to take part in Active Surrey's Racket Pack Badminton. The children had to rotate round 8 stations and complete several Badminton skills, gaining points whilst they did so. The children performed brilliantly and gained first place!
