Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is a provision we offer to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of all our pupils here at Staines Prep. We believe it is the essential foundation upon which learning can take place and are aware that some pupils will require emotional and pastoral support at some point during their educational journey.

Welfare Office

Our Welfare Office has a dedicated team to support the wellbeing of the children during school hours.

The team is fully trained in handling accidents and emergencies that may occur at school. They are also responsible for supporting ongoing needs, such as administering medication for any conditions and illnesses and changes to dietary requirements.

The care of the pupils is our number one priority, and we provide a safe and welcoming environment for pupils should they feel unwell. They and their parents feel comfortable to come to us with any concerns, confident in the knowledge that we are always on hand and happy to help.

PSHE

At Staines Prep we want to ensure that our pupils develop into well-rounded individuals. This includes building their awareness and understanding of themselves, others, and the world we live in. Our whole-school approach to Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education (PSHE) is an integral part of this. PSHE provides children the opportunity to encounter and engage with a range of important topics, geared towards promoting wellbeing, mutual respect, and empathy.

ELSA

At Staines Prep, we offer the ELSA programme to support the pastoral needs of our pupils.

ELSA (Emotional, Literacy Support Assistants) is a project designed to help schools support the emotional needs of their pupils. The initiative was developed and supported by educational psychologists who used knowledge of how children develop socially and emotionally and apply this knowledge to the needs of pupils. ELSAs are trained to plan and deliver programmes of support to pupils in their school who may be experiencing temporary or long term additional emotional needs.

The ‘Rainbow Room’ is where the ELSA team work and is a relaxing space where children have some time to relax and reflect.

Meet Stanley, our beloved school dog!

At three years old, Stanley is a charming Cavapoo with a heart of gold and a knack for bringing smiles to everyone he meets. Trained as a therapy dog, Stanley has made a remarkable impact on both our pupils and staff. His presence alone brings immense joy and comfort, acting as a soothing presence during moments of stress or anxiety.

Stanley effortlessly cultivates a warm and inviting atmosphere, fostering connections and providing emotional support to all who cross his path. Whether he’s lending a listening ear during tough times, offering gentle companionship during breaks, or simply wagging his tail to spread happiness, Stanley’s contributions are invaluable in promoting well-being and enriching our learning environment.

Plus, he adores cuddles and delights in listening to children read aloud – making him a cherished member of our school community!
