On Wednesday morning, having avoided the deluge of rain that had flooded a lot of the surrounding areas, Year 4 pupils set off to Laleham Village as part of their studies of settlements this term. This gave them an opportunity to identify different types of dwellings such as bungalows, detached homes, semi-detached homes, terraces, Georgian town houses and riverboats! They were also able to see the sorts of features that they might have expected to see in a village setting such as a church, a village shop, a monument and a school. They were also able to identify features that you would not necessarily expect to find in a village such as a car showroom or a film studio!
Despite the cold temperatures, Year 4 enjoyed their visit, they asked and answered lots of relevant questions on settlements, how they started, and how and why they developed, and it was good to be able to link their learning to an actual settlement.
